WKDU Loud Rock Update 10/24/07
So Evan told me that I've been sending these out before he actually, er, adds the CDs. Whoops. With that in mind, I'm re-sending this out (with a few new adds tacked on for this week). Have at it.
We've got a decent crop of adds this week -
nothing tooo exciting, but there were a couple gems. I can't figure out
why so much crappy hardcore/metalcore and prog/power keeps sneaking its
way into the metal box, and why every other band this week was doing that
stupid "we're thrash metal but with hardcore vocals and blatant
breakdowns, yeeeah!!" nonsense. I hate that stuff, but other people like it,
soo...the best of those albums made the cut. This time.
Check-check-check-check it out!
DETHKLOK The Dethalbum - Loudest, fastest, most brutal, most epic, most
METAL album EVER (from a cartoon band, that is). You need to hear this.
Everyone needs to hear this. AWAKEN!
Loch Vostok - proggy power metal for fans of the style.
Hatesphere - modern thrashcore
Sodom - New release from German thrash metal gods. I'm still crossing my
fingers hoping that that Sodom/Destruction/Kreator tour will finally
materialize. All hail the old guard!
The Great Deceiver - modern thrashcore
M.O.D. - Pissed off hardcore from Billy Milano (Nuclear Assault/S.O.D.).
'Nuff said.
Speed/Kill/Hate - modern thrash featuring members of Overkill
Enthroned - highly-anticipated new record from cult black metal masters!!
Anterior - More modern thrashcore; on Metalblade (big surprise). I'm
really beginning to hate this style.
Throwdown - thrashy hardcore FFO Hatebreed and the like.
Helloween - traditional power/heavy metal from genre forefathers.
Nightwish - bombastic, operatic, symphonic almost-metal. First album with
new singer.
Blue Cheer - old school heavy rawkers; FFO Cream, Zeppelin, etc
Chris Cafferty - proggy noodly stuff for guitar players and prog fans.
Enforsaken - honestly, don't remember why I put this out. Considering the
recent trend, it's probably either melodeath or modern fucking
thrashcore.
S.S.S.P. - Not sure why there's been so much hardcore in my box lately,
but this was cool at least. Frenetic NYHC replete with gang chants and
vague skinhead connotations (and blatant skinhead imagery). New Agnostic
Front is a billion times better, though.
Within Chaos - hardcore done tight, fast, and well.
Evile - More retro-thrash stuff, but awesome nonetheless. Bang yer head!
Blood Red Throne - excellent death metal.
Ephel Duath - crazy experimental jazzy hardcore stuff.
Pantheon I - features a member of 1349 (can't remember which one); experimental black/death metal. Weird but good.
Demiricous - put out the best Slayer album in years awhile back; their second album sees them easing up a tad on the Slayerisms, instead choosing to focus on thrashing your face off.
Exodus - more thrash done right; these old-schoolers still got it in 'em. their last album was sooo gooood, just FYI.
Soilwork - Gothenburg-style melodic death metal; much better than the dreck they've been putting out lately.
Agnostic Front - balls-out beatdown NYHC from New York's finest. this album RULES.
